Abstract
The article investigates the phenomenon of ancient tradition in American literature through the novel “Angel of Light” (1981) written by contemporary American writer Joyce Carol Oates. The article is among the first publications of this kind to reveal the hidden interrelation between the novel and the ancient Orestes myth in order to analyze its relevance in modern context.
