Abstract
The article deals with comparative constructions which constitute the functional-semantic field of comparativeness. The material for research was elicited from the works of W.S. Maugham. The aim of the article is to analyze and classify the comparative constructions according to the principle of the functional-semantic field with ontological and gnoseological stratifications in which the classification of upper levels is carried on according to the ontological approach, whereas the classification of the lower levels is based on the gnoseological approach.
