Abstract
The article investigates the pre-text in terms of cognitive linguistics, overviews the notion of background knowledge and the mechanism of information extraction from a reference to the pre-text in the recipient’s consciousness. It is concluded that the activation of a pre-text concept in the recipient’s consciousness depends on his background knowledge.
