THE FATE OF OBSOLETE GALLICISMS IN THE CONTEMPORARY RUSSIAN LANGUAGE

Abstract
One of the active processes in Russian in the period end of XX c. – beginning of XXI c. is the return to active use of archaic lexis. Large part of this lexis is comprised of words of French origin. The paper studies the reasons for their activation, the characteristics of the functioning and the changes, through which this lexical layer undergoes.
